Gboard Adds Option to Customize Keyboard Layout

23 Oct 2025

Gboard's version 16.0 introduces a feature enabling users worldwide to hide the period and comma keys from the main keyboard layout, offering more control over their typing experience.

Customization Options

The update permits users to toggle off the period and comma keys via Settings > Preferences. This adjustment can widen the spacebar and simplify the keyboard's bottom row by showing only the spacebar, Enter, and ?123 keys. Users can double-tap the spacebar to insert a period; however, no shortcut exists for the comma, which may affect some users.

User Preferences

This feature caters to individuals preferring a streamlined keyboard or those who often tap punctuation by mistake. Others might choose to retain the keys for convenience.

Release Details

  • The feature is part of Gboard version 16.0.
  • Available globally on both beta and stable builds.
  • Customization accessed through Settings > Preferences.

As Gboard continues to adapt, offering users more personalization, this update marks a noteworthy step in enhancing typing efficiency and comfort.
