Dolphin Update Enhances Stability in GameCube Emulation

16 Sep 2025

The latest Dolphin release, version 2509, has introduced a significant change by disabling the Dual Core mode by default on desktop platforms. This decision aims to address longstanding stability issues and crashes observed during GameCube and Wii emulation. Initially, Dual Core mode was implemented to boost performance by leveraging multiple CPU cores. However, this mode resulted in timing instability that negatively impacted the emulation experience. Thankfully, with modern hardware advancements, games can now be executed at full speed without relying on Dual Core mode.

Interestingly, the story is different when it comes to Android devices, where Dual Core remains enabled by default. This is due to the fact that Android devices often require Dual Core to meet performance demands. The development team recognizes the varying hardware capabilities across platforms and has adjusted the settings accordingly, ensuring optimal performance where needed.

Fixes for Disney Wii Titles and Bluetooth Enhancements

In addition to the Dual Core modifications, Dolphin release 2509 brings crucial fixes for three popular Disney Wii titles: Toy Story 3, Cars 2, and Disney Infinity. The update circumvents a developer-known issue referred to as the 'dcashe suicide pill' by applying specific hacks related to memory address handling. These adjustments ensure that the games run smoothly at full speed on contemporary PCs, much to the delight of the gaming community.

Moreover, substantial improvements have been made to the Bluetooth Passthrough code. This overhaul broadens support for Wii Remote connectivity across a wider range of Bluetooth adapters. A notable enhancement is the specific fix for Realtek RTL8761-based dongles, which had been causing connectivity issues for many users. Such refinements demonstrate Dolphin's continuous commitment to compatibility and user experience enhancement.

Additional minor tweaks and improvements accompany this update, each contributing to a more robust emulation environment. Users are encouraged to download the latest version from the official Dolphin website. However, it is noted that the update may take a few days to appear on Google Play.

This release exemplifies Dolphin's ongoing dedication to refining and optimizing the gaming experience through state-of-the-art emulation technology. By steadily addressing both performance and compatibility challenges, the development team paves the way for a more seamless interaction with beloved classic games.
