Google Unveils Priority Mode in Android 15 QPR Beta

Google's inaugural Android 15 QPR beta introduces a customizable alternative to the Do Not Disturb feature, aptly named Priority Mode. This innovative mode allows users to craft personalized settings, fine-tuning how apps interact with notifications, contacts, display preferences, and more.

The rollout of Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 commenced on August 22, raising eyebrows as the stable version of Android 15 has yet to be released. In the latest development from Google, the tech giant has not elaborated on new features in its first QPR build for Android 15. However, keen observers have unearthed an intriguing enhancement to a long-standing feature.

Mishaal Rahman, contributing to Android Authority, identified a concealed capability within the code of Android 15’s QPR1 Beta 1, known as Priority Mode. This mode promises a fully customizable Do Not Disturb experience, allowing users to tap “Add mode” and tailor settings to suit their individual needs, reminiscent of Samsung’s Modes and Routines.

The update for Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1, which rolled out on August 22, was relatively modest, with some users receiving a package of approximately 500MB. While Google refrained from detailing all the anticipated features, it did provide insights into the typical challenges associated with beta software. Observers at 9to5Google noted the introduction of a new long-press Quick Settings tile and a fresh loading animation during the testing phase.

The timing of this release is particularly curious, as Google has made QPR1 Beta 1 available to Pixel testers without the prior launch of Android 15. The software’s rollout has experienced a longer-than-expected delay, and the emergence of this feature only adds to the intrigue. On a positive note, the company released its final Android 15 beta earlier in August, leading many to speculate that a stable release may be on the horizon in September.
