Google to Launch Pixel 9 Series and Standalone Weather App on August 13

08 Aug 2024

New Features of the Weather App

The Weather app, previously integrated within the Clock app, is now set to debut as a standalone application, designed to enhance user experience with a range of improved features. This new app can be conveniently accessed from the app drawer, marking a significant shift in how users will interact with weather information on their devices.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Weather app is its accessibility. Users do not need to own a Pixel 9 to enjoy its functionalities; the app is compatible with any Android device running Android 14. While it is important to note that this version may not be the final iteration, users can still explore its features, albeit with the possibility of occasional crashes, which can typically be resolved by clearing the app's cache.

Interestingly, the Weather app does not include weather widgets but is integrated within the Google app. There are plans for its availability on older Pixel models in the near future, broadening its reach. Upon installation, users will notice an inviting icon featuring a textured sun and cloud against a blue backdrop.

Interactive User Experience

Upon launching the app, users are greeted with a prompt to enable weather notifications, followed by a request for location permissions to deliver real-time updates tailored to their area. The app's interface allows users to rearrange various weather cards, with the exception of the Hourly forecast, providing a customizable experience.

Additionally, tapping on the profile avatar grants users the ability to modify temperature units and select between light or dark themes, enhancing personalization. According to tipster Dylan Roussel, the app is expected to introduce an innovative feature called "AI Weather Summaries," which may include a dynamic Weather Map, further enriching the user experience.

For those eager to explore the new Weather app, it is available for download from APK Mirror, allowing users to sideload the application and delve into its features ahead of the official launch.

What do the different signs on the weather app mean?

The different signs on a weather app, often referred to as weather icons, denote various weather conditions. For instance, a sun icon represents clear weather, a cloud with sun means partly cloudy, a cloud with rain signifies rain, and a cloud with snow depicts snowfall. Other common icons include thunderstorms (a cloud with a lightning bolt), fog (a cloud with lines underneath), and wind (curved lines). Each app may have slight variations, but most use standardized weather symbols.

What app does Apple Watch use for weather?

The Apple Watch uses the built-in Weather app provided by Apple to display weather information. This app offers features like current weather conditions, hourly and 10-day forecasts, and weather alerts. It synchronizes with the Weather app on the iPhone to provide accurate and localized weather data. Users can also use third-party weather apps available on the App Store for additional features.
