WowMouse App Turns Wearable Technology into Universal Device Controller

20 Jun 2024

Doublepoint, the innovative company behind the WowMouse app, is changing the game for WearOS users. This impressive app aims to transform any Android watch into a mouse and a universal remote for AR and VR headsets, offering a whole new level of control and convenience.

Revolutionizing Wearable Technology

A recent demo of WowMouse at the Augmented World Expo in Long Beach showcased the app’s capabilities. Don Hopper, a Galaxy Watch 4 user, successfully paired the app with his Meta Quest 3 headset at home. He found that the pinch gesture, supported by WowMouse, effectively simulated a mouse click on the Quest 3. However, Hopper noted that the sensitivity needed some adjustment, and selecting objects with a pinch gesture didn’t work as smoothly during his testing.

During the demo at AWE, participants were able to control various devices, such as lamps, using WowMouse. Users were asked to stand in a specific spot and gesture towards each light to take control of the object with a pinch gesture. Rotating the wrist allowed for adjusting the brightness, showcasing the app’s versatility and potential.

The Future of Wrist-Based Control

With Apple’s visionOS 2, Meta’s upcoming HorizonOS, and Google/Samsung’s plans for Android XR, the concept of wrist-based control for all devices in your environment is becoming more feasible with platform-level support. Games like Owchemy Labs’ Job Simulator, which now supports hand tracking on Apple Vision Pro, demonstrate the potential for wrist-based controls in virtual environments.

As technology continues to advance, the integration of haptic feedback and gesture controls in VR headsets and AR glasses could pave the way for a bright future for Doublepoint’s WowMouse app. The possibilities for intuitive and seamless control of devices are endless, thanks to innovative solutions like WowMouse.
