Garmin Introduces Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 Smartwatches for Rugged Use

28 Aug 2024

Enhanced Features for Athletes

Garmin has unveiled two new rugged smartwatches, the Fenix 8 and the Enduro 3, both designed to cater to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts and athletes alike. The Fenix 8, priced at $799.99, stands out as one of Garmin’s flagship models, now equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone, allowing users to make and receive calls directly from their wrist. This smartwatch also introduces a suite of new training features aimed at enhancing the user experience.

The Fenix 8 embraces a smarter approach with the addition of voice command capabilities, enabling users to issue commands such as “set a timer for 5 minutes” without needing to connect to a smartphone. This functionality, previously seen in the Venu 2 Plus, marks a significant advancement for the Fenix lineup. Furthermore, the introduction of the Garmin Messenger app allows for seamless communication with friends and family, provided both parties have the app installed on their devices.

In terms of display options, the Fenix 8 offers a choice between an OLED screen and a solar charging display. The OLED models come in sizes of 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm, continuing Garmin’s trend of incorporating OLED technology across its range. For those who prefer a longer-lasting display during outdoor activities, the solar models are available in 47mm and 51mm, boasting impressive battery life estimates of 29 and 48 days, respectively. In contrast, the standard Fenix 8 models offer battery life of 10 days (43mm), 16 days (47mm), and 29 days (51mm).

Design enhancements include a new sensor guard and “leakproof” metal buttons, alongside features like LED flashlights and EKG capabilities, which were introduced in the Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro models last year. Additionally, Garmin has integrated advanced strength training plans tailored to specific sports, diving capabilities, and a revamped map interface to further enrich the user experience.

Solar Power for Endurance

The Enduro 3, priced at $899.99, shares many of the Fenix 8’s new features, including the built-in flashlight, advanced strength training plans, Garmin Messenger app, and EKG functionality. However, it distinguishes itself with solar charging capabilities, making it particularly appealing to ultra-endurance athletes. The solar lens is designed to provide up to 320 hours of battery life in GPS mode, and 120 hours with dual-frequency GPS, ensuring that even the most demanding outdoor activities can be supported.

Both the Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 are now available for purchase, with the Fenix 8 starting at $799.99, while select models may reach up to $999.99. The Enduro 3 is set at a retail price of $899.99, making these devices a compelling choice for those seeking advanced technology in their outdoor adventures.
