As a result, you will be able to know at a glance which files or apps are taking up more space than you thought. Using TreeSize is pretty simple. The first thing to do is to scan any of your hard disks, from the Scan tab. Depending on the size of the disk and how much space is occupied on it, this analysis can take from a few seconds to several minutes. Ideally, during this time, in any case, you should let the program work without altering the contents of the disk being analyzed. Once the analysis is finished, you can take a quick look at the distribution of your disk space. By default, TreeSize will sort the directories in descending order: from the folder that occupies the most space on the entire disk, to those that occupy the least (which will usually be several empty folders). By clicking on any directory you will be able to display all the subfolders that it contains, seeing in turn how much each one of them occupies. One of the most interesting aspects of TreeSize is that it allows you to take direct action on any folder. Everything is a file search program for Windows. The Windows search feature is too slow, and sometimes it can be difficult and tedious to find a file with the operating system's built-in search engine. Everything creates a database of all the files you have in your storage units. Thanks to this, it can instantly find any file you are looking for. When you open the program, it will show every folder and file present in the system—hence the program's name. File indexing works very fast. With Windows freshly installed, with about 120,000 files, it takes one second to create the database. With one million files, indexing takes about one minute. All this is done while consuming very few resources, as the program uses only a few tens of MB of RAM memory. If the program is always open, Everything will monitor all changes made to the storage units, whether deleting files or adding new ones. Keep in mind, though, that Everything only indexes NTFS formatted storage drives, although you can add network drives or FAT32 and exFAT drives. In addition to searching for files, Everything can find data within the files themselves. However, this search is much slower, since the program does not index the content inside the files.
