The ZOD Engine is an open source remake of the classic Z from the Bitmap Brothers which, in spite of not having the campaign's single player missions, allows you to play over the internet against other players in different scenarios and even enjoy a game against bots. To start a match you just have to configure the launcher by filling in all the fields (your color, the map you want to play in, the number of opponents, your name, etc.) and, once you're ready, you just launch the game. The name of the maps at your disposal can be found in the text file located in the game’s installation folder. Plus, together with the download you’ll find a levels editor that lets you create your own levels to play against the AI or against your friends. The ZOD Engine has the same graphics as the classic Z, only with a higher resolution. So, it basically has great graphics with a clear attention o detail (snakes slithering through the ground, eagles flying, etc.)

When you start a new game, it's a good idea to start by exploring your surroundings to recognize the nearest threats and the best opportunities. After that, try to expand your territory and, over time, create a prosperous empire. Needless to say, UnCiv is a relatively complex game that, while familiar to any veteran of the Civilization saga, may be somewhat complicated for those who have never played any of its installments. Players have to manage concepts and controls as diverse as diplomacy with other civilizations, the technology tree, the development of cities, the adoption of new policies, and much more. Fortunately, the game has a tutorial to guide you through all these processes. UnCiv is a great open source version of a classic video game. This is a completely free and ad-free game that will delight fans of the genre. In a nutshell, this is an absolutely outstanding title that takes up only 80MB and can be played on virtually any modern computer. It's a real treat for fans of turn-based strategy and 4X.

Solace is quite an atypical game: its gameplay is taken straight from classic 2D arcade games, but its actual subject matter is – curiously enough – the five stages of personal grief. Each stage corresponds to a level where your shots compose a melody matching the feeling being worked through. The music for the anger stage, for example, is quite raucous, while the denial stage is much more serene. Despite seeming easy at the start, the game gets way more complicated in the last levels, where you'll need good reflexes to deflect all the enemy attacks that come your way. Solace is an entertaining game that, despite being a bit short, is definitely worth a look due to the excellent experience it transmits.
