Rum Isle is a real-time strategy game in which players will have to control a group of pirates, gather resources, erect different buildings, and of course fight against other pirates, both at sea and on land. The first step in Rum Isle, just as in any strategy game, is to gather resources. Your main resources will be bananas, which are necessary to recruit more pirates, gold, which is useful for many things, and wood, which is indispensable for constructing buildings. Of course, later on you will be able to gather many other types of resources, such as stones and metals. During the strategy phase of Rum Isle, players will have to get ahold of resources and erect different buildings. Towers will be used to defend your town, sawmills can be used to make wooden planks from wood. In addition, from time to time, you will have to participate in sea battles that will be carried out in a manner very similar to that of the classic board game Battleship. You will have to take turns trying to sink the enemies' ships, without knowing where, exactly, they are. Rum Isle is a fun real-time strategy game that is relatively deep, with enchanting graphics. Unlike other games from the same genre, Retaliation: Path of War has a simple, thorough tutorial. Once you've finished it, you can start on the individual missions or the game campaign. Even though Retaliation: Path of War is based on a simple idea, there are a lot of different rules and variables that come into play during the game. These elements include the elevation of the terrain where you are fighting, how close certain squares are, and your support or flanks. All of these will be essential when it comes to determining the outcome of your battles. Retaliation: Path of War is a turn-based strategy game with a board game spin, and it has an extensive, fun campaign for players. Savage XR combines game genres as diverse as real-time strategy and first-person action. Initially launched as a commercial title in 2003 by the studio S2 Games, it was published as freeware in 2006, and has since been continually improved up to the current version, which has many upgrades compared to the original at no cost whatsoever. This is a cooperative game focused exclusively on multiplayer mode, where two teams of players must battle each other in massive levels where more than 100 people can participate simultaneously. There are two ways to play that offer completely different gaming experiences: each team has a commander, who will see the action from a distance, constructing buildings and managing resources for the construction of new units, as in a traditional strategy game. The remaining players will see the action in third person, controlling a single character on the battlefield and choosing from several classes, each with different skills. Depending on your commander's actions and your own ability to defeat enemies, you can also improve your equipment and weaponry. Savage XR is incontestably an original project that unifies two completely different genres, adding features from RPGs, such as leveling-up of characters, specialized classes, and even the social interaction that you'd find in an MMORPG.

Muamba Wars - Fight Against Piracy is a game focused on the concept of muambeiros, which are smugglers who try to cross the border between Brazil and Paraguay to sell their smuggled merchandise. The gameplay is the typical of tower defense games. You control the forces of order in Brazil, and try to stop smugglers from coming in, managing different units that you can deploy to defend your position. The available units are not that varied. There are policemen, special agents, and the military, who all shoot the same rubber bullets, just at different speeds. The more expensive the unit, the faster it shoots. Besides these three basic defensive units, you can also acquire barricades, which slow down the movement of enemy units; giant bombs, which scare away the smugglers; and even new columns to deploy more units. Muamba Wars - Fight Against Piracy is a pretty basic tower defense game, in which some more types of units are lacking, as well as some additional objective. As it is now, you just have to repel hordes of enemies without stopping.

Alien Assault is a turn-based strategy game played in an overhead view. In it, players lead different squads of space marines in their fight against a relentlessly murderous alien race. The battles almost always take place inside spacecraft or other enclosed spaces filled with corridors and small rooms. These conditions are ideal for the aliens, who – despite their use of guns – are particularly lethal in hand-to-hand fighting. Luckily, the space marines have attributes that the aliens do not: discipline and sacrifice. The key to victory generally lies in the correct use of your units, including the willingness to sacrifice some of your men when necessary. You find several different types of unit in Alien Assault, each with its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Marines armed with flamethrowers, for example, are ideal for clearing out alien-infested rooms from a distance. On the other hand, units with power hammers may slow the advance of an enemy force in a narrow hallway. Alien Assault has five different campaigns with more than a dozen missions in each one. It also comes with tons of configuration options to leave the game exactly the way you want it. Alien Assault is an outstanding turn-based strategy game. Cleverly inspired by the legendary board game Space Hulk, it creates an almost-perfect gaming experience that fans of the genre will love.

Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries is a real-time strategy game principally focused on combat where the players can select one of the seven available cultures to participate in a war of epic scale: facing off are the Japanese, Chinese, Mayans, Persians, Vikings, Greeks, and Normans. Unlike many other real-time strategy games, Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries doesn't place undue emphasis on resource management, minimizing much of this very workaday segment. In its place, all sights are trained on combat, where the game really shines – when dozens of units are clashing simultaneously on the screen. That said, it's not all war in Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries, since you can also initiate various diplomatic gambits with other cultures, such as making goodwill treaties, buying and selling food, exchanging technology, or even forming alliances to battle other, more powerful enemies. The possibilities are quite broad. Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries is an excellent strategy game that in spite of having been commercially released at the end of the nineties became free and open-source in the year 2009.

HearthStone is a collectable card game where you can face off against opponents from all over the world in exciting card battles where strategy and planning are the key to victory. The playing system in HearthStone is similar to other titles of the genre, like Magic: The Gathering. You receive an additional mana point each turn, which allows you to play more cards. You can call on creatures to attack your opponents, cast powerful spells, and combine all of your abilities to perform powerful moves that will finish off your enemy and all of their health points. You can play in individual duels over the Internet, or try your hand against the computer - but maybe the most interesting playing mode is the Arena, where you are assigned a random deck of cards and must try to survive the greatest number of duels using just that. The most important part of HearthStone may be the battles against other players, but it's not the only part of the game. Collecting the cards themselves is also very important, and you can even buy packs of cards to add to your deck. To get the money needed to buy more cards, you need to win your battles... or pull out your wallet and pay with real money. HearthStone is an outstanding collectable card game - maybe the best of its genre. In fact, the only problem it has is that it's so good, it will eat up all of your free time. Trust me, I'm speaking from experience.
