Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

EasyGameStation

5 (970)

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale is a peculiar RPG where apart from plunging yourself into an adventure in endless dungeons full of enemies and treasure, you'll have to manage your own item shop to provide supplies for other adventurers passing through the village. The first noticeable thing about the game is its nice graphics, which feature a delightful anime-style character design. The main character, who manages the store and buys and sells objects, is an adorable little girl who's always with a fairy that will guide you through the tutorial and show you how to play. Once you get out of the store, you can go around the whole village, talking with its different residents and going into the many buildings in it. Although perhaps the most entertaining thing is the ability to go into dungeons and explore them, kill monsters, and collect treasure (that you can later sell). Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale is a very entertaining title that its look might cause to seem focused on a young audience. Nevertheless, its complex gameplay and entertaining playability will make anyone enjoy it.

It puts any PlayStation 2 game on your PC with the added appeal of getting to set up your graphics configurations as you see fit -- often far surpassing original visuals. In order to set up, simply install the appropriate BIOS file for any regional PlayStation 2 -- that said, they're NOT loaded within this program; albeit a quick Google search should put all the files you need in your hands fairly easily. This program is very simple to use. After just a few quick steps you get to play any and all original PlayStation 2 games from your DVD drive. Otherwise, you can also opt into loading images directly from your hard drive which speeds things along slightly. Set up game controllers, video and audio parameters, plus easily opt to save your games on an external SIM card. With over 1500 games available -- all of which run seamlessly -- you'll find this catalog is ripe with compatible titles. That said, there are a few games with the occasional hiccup, but all in all PCSX2 has proven a very successful PlayStation 2 rendition for PCs. Best of all is that you can actually attain a gaming experience that is visually far more compelling than its original thanks to the tweaks you can make on graphics to display them to your own liking; provided that your PC set up can handle it -- that is. Among visual options that you can toggle you'll find there are a wide array of possibilities: reset resolution, rendering systems, shaders, texture filters, and much more. All in all, PCSX2 is by far the finest PlayStation 2 emulator out there today, a welcome title for any diehard PS2 fan who's in the market for a way to migrate their retro games onto today's PCs.

Blackthorne

Blizzard Entertainment

3 (1083)

Blackthorne is a two-dimensional platform-based action game that may remind you of games like Prince of Persia and Flashback. You take on the role of Kyle Vlaros, the heir of the planet Tuul, in an epic mission to recover his throne. There are seventeen different levels divided into four areas, starting in mines at the beginning of the game and moving through a jungle and a desert filled with enemies that want to cut your adventure short. Luckily, your hero Kyle Vlaros comes equipped with a sawed-off shotgun. While your weapon may not be very powerful at first, you can improve it as you play, so that you eventually have a machine capable of turning your enemies to dust. Although this is a 2D game, Blackthorne uses a pretty original covering system, which allows you to dodge to the side to avoid enemy fire. Of course, your enemies have the same capability. Blackthorne is a two-dimensional platform-based action game developed by Blizzard in 1994. Despite its age, it's still an excellent playing experience - both graphics and gameplay are perfectly enjoyable today.

La Abadia del Crimen (The Abbey of Crime)

3 (970)

La Abadía del Crimen (The Abbey of Crime) is one of the most emblematic video games from the golden age of Spanish software. Even today many consider it one of the best games of all time, and this has led to the development of new versions like this one, which works perfectly on modern operating systems. The game, a rather atypical adventure, occurs during a seven-day period in which your hero, Guillermo de Occam, has to enter an abbey in the south of Italy to try to solve a series of murders that have filled all the abbey's residents with dismay. Your job as you control Guillermo de Occam, then, is to solve the crimes by investigating the abbey and doing everything you must in order to do it. That said, if the abbot finds you outside your cell at night or you miss too many masses... you'll be kicked out of the monastery and the game will be over. La Abadía del Crimen is one of the most popular Spanish video games in history, and with good reason. It's a splendid adventure that has been rebuilt for the occasion with graphics that are even more delightful than the original's.

Back to Bed

Bedtime Digital Games

3 (819)

Back to Bed is a fun puzzle game that uses a very similar gameplay to that of the brilliant ChuChu Rocket! from Dreamcast. It puts you in the skin of a strange character, Bob, who is a narcoleptic sleepwalker. Your goal is to return him safely to his bed. Bob will always move in a straight line, no matter which level you're on, though he'll turn clockwise when he encounters an obstacle. Your goal is to guide him to his bed as best as you can. To do so you can move items and put them in his way so he turns in a certain direction. The game has 12 different levels that pose 12 increasingly complex puzzles. In all of them, you'll discover new items that further complicate things. Aesthetically speaking, Back to Bed is reminiscent of Giorgio de Chirico's drawings. The landscapes and dream elements, given the nature of the game, feel quite apt. And the fact that everything is three-dimensional and has very careful character modeling helps the general look of the game even more. Back to Bed is a very entertaining game. Although it's rather short, it has an interesting gameplay, a fun premise, and very good graphics. Even better? It's completely free.

Abandoned Earth is a first person action game developed by Unity 5, a potent, versatile, free engine. The game was developed by a group of five students in just four months. The results: amazing. In Abandoned Earth, players control a robot who, having been switched on after a spaceship emergency, finds that everything has gone terribly wrong. There's no trace of human life and the rest of the electronic equipment is not working. Luckily, your character is armed with a service weapon. It's essentially a first person shooting game inspired by (according to the programmers themselves) Bioshock, Half-Life, and Halo. The gameplay is similar to many other classic wave mode games, which include many popular shooting games. That's to say, players will face off against waves of enemies that get harder and harder to defeat while improving their abilities and picking up new weapons. Abandoned Earth is a good free FPS that offers very addicting gameplay and spectacular graphics. You'll need a good computer in order to take advantage of them. If your computer is older, you'll have to work with graphics at a lower setting.

Zafehouse Diaries

Zafehouse Diaries is a strange video game that mixes elements from traditional board games and the role-playing games that have been around forever with a very successful zombie setting where your goal is to survive. On the one hand, Zafehouse Diaries presents you with an adventure where the main scene is nothing other than a game board. The board is of a house, to be more precise, but in the end it's a game board. You have to move your different characters around the board in order to find resources and secure your position. Of course, in addition to this traditional board game setup (which is even more apparent due to the fact that your characters are represented by game pieces), there is also a lot of role-playing content in Zafehouse Diaries. Each character has his or her own characteristics or attributes, and even the story that you create influences the game a lot. Zafehouse Diaries is a unique experience that does an exceptional job of combining genres to offer a fun video game that you will want to play again and again. You can spend hours and hours playing it before it gets boring.

Sintel The Game is a third-person adventure game with some puzzle and action elements in which players must step into the shoes of Sintel, a young woman who is searching for a dragon she befriended during her childhood. However, this quest will not exactly be an easy one. Although Sintel The Game is a complete game in its own right (though it is in an early stage of development), in order to understand the game you have to remember that it was inspired directly by the film Sintel. This is an animated film that was created by the Blender Foundation, using only the Blender tool. The game takes the characters and storyline from the film, and uses them to show some events that were not seen in the movie. During them, Sintel must solve a series of different puzzles and travel through different landscapes, such as a cave or a desert. Just as with the film, all of the elements in the game have been developed using Blender. Sintel The Game is a rather curious game. Its main appeal comes from the fact that, like the movie, it was developed entirely using Blender. It also has decent graphics and some interesting new ideas.

When you start, you'll have to pick your character's name and attributes: decide on features like level of strength, speed, luck, etc. These attributes will ultimately determine the way your character plays, so choose wisely. At the beginning of the story, you'll be plunged into a pirate plot in which you'll have to raid enemy ships, enter caves filled with monsters, face enemy bosses, and obviously loot lots of treasure. The battles are very similar to the classic games from the Final Fantasy saga. In other words, each turn you'll have a time bar and every time your character's bar refills you'll be able to attack. Same for your enemies. Dubloon is a free indie RPG that stands out mainly for its unique theme. Very few games from this genre deal with pirates and even fewer let you play one.
