Quest for Yrolg is a point and click graphic adventure with a unique game mechanics that separate it from other title of the same genre. The story of Quest for Yrolg begins with a necromancer who is about to finish a ritual that will make him the owner of the world. Players control the necromancer's assistant, a puny little demon who has the important task of preventing three heroes from reaching the demon's boss and killing him before he can finish the ritual. Players can move with total freedom through the necromancer's dungeon, interacting with all of the objects they find there. You can speak to the dragon, ask a golem to follow you, grab a vorpal sword... but you can't directly attack the heroes. Your objective will be to set traps for the heroes. You can, at any time, ask your companion (a red cup), to let the heroes in, at which point your traps will be put to the test. Quest for Yrolg is a great graphic adventure that not only offers an interesting story and fun game mechanics, but also has great visuals.

Womb is a psychological horror adventure set in the future where you control a human being who has woken up inside a spaceship after having been cryogenically frozen for more than 400 years. Though this game was developed using RPG Maker and you can access a menu that is very similar to that found in most of these kinds of role-playing games, you won't find a single combat in Womb. There are no enemies in the spaceship and you don't have to worry about finding weapons or armor. Instead, the all of the problems that you encounter will appear in the form of puzzles. During the game you will see some videos with real images that help the story move forward at key moments. These videos are quite different from Womb's normal graphics, and this time they are practically identical to those of most of the games developed with RPG Maker. Womb is a disturbing and very interesting adventure, and its main strength is its story. However, at some points the hero moves so slowly that it can be really exasperating.

The Rats in the Walls is a short graphic adventure inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name. You will control the scion of a powerful English family who discovers a horrible secret when he arrives at the old family mansion for the first time. The control system for The Rats in the Walls is very similar to that of any other traditional 2D graphic adventure. You can examine elements in the scenes, pick up objects, use objects with other elements and, of course, investigate the whole scene. The goal of The Rats in the Walls is to figure out what happened in the mansion of your protagonist's ancestors, as it seems that something is very wrong from the very beginning of the game. It won't take long for you to discover that, in fact, many things went very wrong in the past. The Rats in the Wall is a short, very interesting graphic adventure. Though it doesn't have particularly fun mechanics, it does tell a very unsettling story.

Flash Frozen is a first-person horror game in which you control the only survivor of a shipwreck that occurred when a boat full of passengers crashed into a mysterious ice formation that appeared out of nowhere. Your goal is to escape from inside the boat, which is half-destroyed, half-flooded, and completely run aground on a giant ice formation. The only weapon that your hero will have is a lighter that allows you to illuminate dark areas and light papers to warm yourself up. Though you won't see anything, it's clear from the very beginning of the game that there is 'something' hanging around the ice in Flash Frozen. However, the main danger that you will have to face at first will be the cold itself. If you stay still or if you touch water, your character will freeze. In terms of the graphics, Flash Frozen makes the most of the Unity engine. All of the scenes contain a lot of detail, and you can even interact with most of the elements in them, grabbing boxes and moving them around. Flash Frozen is a first-person horror game with esthetics that really inspire terror and game mechanics that are very, very similar to that of the great game Penumbra.

Mudlarks is a point-and-click graphic adventure set in contemporary times where you play Winston, a normal young man who lives and works in London and who has a rather peculiar hobby: he is a mudlarker (someone who walks river banks looking for valuable objects). The story of Mudlarks starts when your main character and his mudlarking partner find a mysterious jewel on the banks of the Thames. Everything changes from that moment on, and a series of chained events will lead Winston down a path he never expected to walk. Besides the story, Mudlarks has more than 40 locations, more than 40 characters you can interact with, thousands of dialogues, dozens of puzzles to solve, and above all a long and complex storyline set in modern London. Mudlarks is a comprehensive and traditional graphic adventure. The graphics could be better, but as soon you advance a little in the storyline, you discover an interesting and intriguing plot that completely overshadows the technical aspects of the game.

Hotel Paradise is a first-person interactive experience where you play an unidentified character who wakes up inside a hotel room holding a room key. Your aim is simple: find the room that corresponds to the number on the key. Each game in Hotel Paradise is different from the previous one. Not much, it's true, but the game does have something unique about it. Each time you start a new game, you'll have a key with a different number, meaning you'll always have to look for a different room. Plus, the floor of the hotel that you're on is ... strangely gigantic and maze-like. After wandering through the halls for a good while it's possible that you come across your room. When you finally do, you have to open the door and see what's inside. Whatever it is, it will be something that's designed just for you. Hotel Paradise is a pretty strange game that, even if it doesn't sound particularly fun, does have an interesting premise. The graphics and the soundtrack are nice touches as well.

Extrication is a point-and-click graphic adventure where you play a swindler in the thick of a sticky situation. He owes money to Fat Tony, a local mobster famous for never letting a debt slide, and has less than 24 hours to get the money together and hand it over. You play Extrication just like most other graphic adventure games: using the mouse, you can investigate anything you come across in the level, move objects around, speak to people, and try to use anything you have in your possession to your advantage. The adventure is relatively short but it has a lot of different characters you can interact with, as well as three different possible endings. Of course, one of the possibilities includes 'sleeping with the fishes', which is what will happen if you can't come up with the money to pay Tony. Extrication is a graphic adventure with a great retro feel, an interesting storyline, and some very enticing characters. Definitely a high-quality free game.

Camp 1 is a point-and-click graphic adventure that borrows its gameplay and look directly from the genre during the 1990s. As a player, you'll assume the role of Korski, the pilot of an intergalactic mining expedition on an unknown planet (or asteroid) who, at the beginning of the adventure, is collecting his things to return home. Soon after the adventure begins, after you familiarize yourself with the game's traditional control system, the situation goes awry. Your character realizes that if he really wants to make it home, he'll have to use all of his (your) resourcefulness. The most important aspects of any graphic adventure are the story and the puzzles, and Camp 1 does both of these nicely. The game's story is gripping and interesting, and it's particularly enhanced by the oppressive setting. In terms of puzzles, despite being simple at times, for the most part they are challenging but within reason. Camp 1 is a medium-length graphic adventure game (it's not particularly long), with charming pixelated graphics and an interesting story.

Truck Loader 3 is an addictive logic game where the main objective is to use a little robot to take boxes from the storage center to a transport truck. Although it's a simple idea, succeeding in this task depends on your ability and attention to detail. Sometimes you'll have to try several different maneuvers to make it work. Level one of Truck Loader 3's 30 levels is a tutorial that shows you how to play: use the direction buttons to move your robot forwards or backwards, and left click and hold to activate your robot's magnetic claw. You can move the claw from side to side with the mouse in order to position it precisely. The process is the same on each level: click to pick up a box and then take it to the truck. However, picking up the box is usually not so easy and getting it to the truck is much more difficult. Along the way, you'll find other buttons that open or close doors that lead to mazes, narrow hallways that are hard to get through, and other complicated obstacles. Once you get to the truck, you'll have to put the box in the exact location that's been reserved for it. The first levels show you the problems you'll have to face. So, take a look around while you're playing and remember what you see since it may help you out on the next level. Truck Loader 3 is a fun brainteaser that will give you hours of challenging fun.

The Terrible Old Man is a traditional point-and-click graphic adventure inspired by the short story of the same name by H.P. Lovecraft. This should give you a good idea of the game's setting and general tone. In The Terrible Old Man, you control a man who, along with his two friends, is drinking beer in a bar in the small town of Kingsport. In the bar, by chance, he hears that an old ship captain lives just outside town and has a huge treasure hidden in his house. With this information, the protagonist and his two friends make a very important decision. The Terrible Old Man's game mechanics are typical of the genre. You can look at all the elements in the setting, interact with some of them, and speak with all the characters in the bar. Some characters will have more things to say than others, but all of them have important information. The Terrible Old Man is a short adventure, lasting about 15 minutes, that does a very good job of adapting Lovecraft's story to the video game format. The puzzles, despite being few, are logical and very well constructed. And although the graphics seem bad at first, the truth is they have a very disturbing charm.

The Mysterious Disappearance of Mr. Lovecraft is a third-person horror adventure where you can directly control the master of horror, H.P. Lovecraft. In this adventure, your character explores a maze made up of his own nightmares and fears. The gameplay in The Mysterious Disappearance of Mr. Lovecraft is simple: you just have to tap wherever you want to move your character. With a double tap, you can run. That said, your character doesn't exactly shine for his physical abilities, so you can only run for a short period of time. At a certain point in the adventure (practically at the beginning), you can find two special objects that let you play in first person and use a map. The object for playing the adventure in first person (a sort of floating eye) is incredibly useful to give you a better perspective of everything happening around you. The Mysterious Disappearance of Mr. Lovecraft is a 3D graphic adventure that's directly influenced by classics like Alone in the Dark. It's a game with an outstanding atmosphere and graphics that, while not especially great, look awesome thanks to an excellent use of illumination.

In Search of the Light is an adventure game where you dive into a world submerged in a realm of dark forces where darkness reigns supreme. It's your turn to follow along on the story of an unusual creature out to find a bit of light in this world of shadows. As you might expect, In Search of the Light plunges you into the depths of a monochrome world tainted by hues of grey and black. In order to move your hero around each level, you need to tap on the corresponding arrow keys to move forwards and backwards. And, as per usual, all you have to do is tap the spacebar to land jumps and dodge any obstacles that pop up along the way. Another interesting aspect of In Search of the Light is that its soundtrack is pretty stellar. This game steers clear of trite soundscapes to expand the genre -- making your own original sound effect score as you play. Each step you take produces a unique sequence of sounds to accompany your every move. And, in the upper part of the screen you'll keep count of the number of light orbs you've accrued. In Search of the Light has a unique esthetic to it and controllers that allow you to move around each landscape seamlessly. Making your way around each dark corner to find the last little sliver of light, it's up to you to bring dawn to a dark world haunted by a mysterious darkness.

As you might have guessed, Curro features prominently in many parts of the game— you can even take part in fun mini-games where the Seville Expo 92 mascot will be the main protagonist. Spectacle is a first-person graphic adventure in pure Shadowgate style, in which players are trapped in a fantasy realm from which they have to escape by any means necessary. The catch? Your only means of survival is your own ingenuity, since your protagonist is otherwise defenseless against the many dangers you'll encounter in this fantasy world. The gameplay of Spectacle will be familiar to anyone who has ever played the aforementioned Shadowgate or Elvira saga games, or even a lesser-known game called Personal Nightmare. At the bottom of the screen, you'll have a list with all the commands you can use, as well as a map for locating yourself quickly. On the other hand, on the right side of the interface, you'll have your inventory and spells, while on the left side, you can see whatever scene is laid out before your protagonist. To interact with any element in the scene, first choose which command you want to use (look, open, pick up...), then tap on the element in question. The most original aspect of Spectacle is that time passes as you move through the different locations in the game, so the sun will set, and one day will change into another. Some of the puzzles in the game can only be solved at certain times of day, so sometimes, to solve a puzzle, you'll not only have to think about how to solve it but also when to solve it. Fortunately, some of the spells you can learn throughout your adventure will help you find the right solutions. Another aspect of Spectacle to keep in mind is that it has a few different procedural elements. In short, this means that some of the puzzles in the game have random variables, so you won't be able to find the exact solutions in any guides. You can look up how to solve the puzzles, but not the exact solutions, since the solutions will vary from game to game. Spectacle is an absolutely outstanding old school adventure game with beautiful visuals, a charming soundtrack, an interesting story, and some very original puzzles. This game will be a real treat for fans of a genre that, unfortunately, has not had much recent representation beyond the Shadowgate remake.
