Playing the hero, a young high school student, you enter an abandoned town which, despite showing no visible signs of life, is the home of number of otherworldly spirits, which prove to be anything but friendly. The only weapon you have at your disposal is a camera, with which you can see and photograph the ghosts and demons. And to make use of it, you must constantly change perspective from the usual third person view for moving the around, to a first person view for looking through the camera. You can't just rely on the camera to survive. Instead, you must also have good reflexes to avoid the spirits when they attack. Dreadout really is an excellent horror game that will delight fans of Fatal Frame/Project Zero, and thanks to its superior graphics and spooky atmosphere, you will be sure to experience some genuine terror along the way.

SDLPoP is a free and open-source version of the legendary game from Jordan Mechner, Prince of Persia, which is one of the most influential action and platform games of all time. In this version, you can play from the first level, in which your blonde character picks up his sword, to the last level in which he has fight the same evil Jaffar. The gameplay in SDLPoP is exactly the same as the original game. With the cursor, you can move your character from one side of the screen to the other and also jump, while with the 'shift' key, you can walk slowly and lunge when you have your sword drawn. If you're curious, SDLPoP is based on the unmounted DOS version of Prince of Persia. This is because, if you've played Prince of Persia on Snes or Mac, you might remember that the graphics weren't that great. On each platform, the graphics look slightly different. SDLPoP is a great way to enjoy one of the best video games of all time in a convenient way. All you have to do is unzip it, double click, and start playing.

You survive in a world composed of blocks – similar to Legos – that you can move around however you like from your first-person perspective. You can do everything from chipping off big chunks of stone to build a house, chopping down trees to make furniture to put in your home, or even putting together more complex projects like wells, statues, buildings, etc. Your only limit is your imagination, and as soon as you start creating, you'll realize that the options at your disposal are practically infinite. But obviously, building things is only part of Minecraft. The other part happens at nightfall when monsters come out of their caves, and the game becomes a proper survival horror title. It's then that you have to face off against giant spiders, skeletons, endermen, or the terrifying creepers. And it's then that you’ll make good use of your sword or bow and arrows. To survive in the world of Minecraft, you'll need more than just your home with a bed, your sword, and a few tools. You'll also need food, as your character will get hungry. You'll need to explore your world, as the best materials aren't always lying around in plain sight. And you'll definitely need to use the huge freedom the game offers at all times. Visually, Minecraft is not great, as you'll see in the images and video, but its grid look is completely necessary for the gameplay to make sense. Also, the game lets you radically customize the graphics using mods or skin packages. Minecraft is the most successful independent game of recent times. And with good reason. This masterpiece from Notch has managed to worm its way into the hearts of millions of players, who enjoy it on all its available platforms: iOS, Android, Xbox 360, Linux, Mac, and (of course) Windows.

The majority of levels are impossible to finish if you're only using the jump action. The solution? Use the pause button. In Pause Ahead, the game's pause button allows you to stop everything that's happening on the screen, except for the movement and momentum of your character. That means that the saws will stop spinning and the pincers will stop snapping, but if your hero is in the middle of a jump when you hit pause, he'll keep going up until he hits the roof. To make things even more complicated, you need to complete each level within a time limit. This is pretty complicated at the beginning, but as you progress through the game, it somehow gets even more impossible, and you'll find yourself using the pause button constantly. Pause Ahead is a notable two-dimensional platform game with original gameplay that requires you to be very, very skilled if you want to get your hero to the end of the game safe and sound.

You'll have raincoats and umbrellas, and also wrenches to close fire hydrants and poles for jumping puddles. The number of each item that you can use in each level is limited, so you'll need to think carefully about where to place each object before giving the cat the go-ahead. After all, if it gets wet at any point in the level, you'll have to start all over again from the beginning. Raincat is a fun game with original gameplay and absolutely charming hand-drawn graphics.

Happy Glass is a game that requires your creativity and imagination to draw lines of all kinds of shapes to make the sad and empty glass happy by filling it to the brim with water. So, as the liquid flows, your goal is to create a path to lead it straight into the glass. During each level, you'll see the glass anxiously waiting for the water to flow into it. So your task revolves around creating lines and shapes that act as pathways to guide the water towards the glass. You can draw platforms, ramps or any other shape that helps you achieve your mission. But, as you'll soon find out, moving the water from point A to point B gets increasingly complicated. That's why you must learn to draw your lines accurately, or you run the risk of moving the water in the wrong direction. But seeing as you can restart levels as often as you want in Happy Glass, you aren't penalized for failing. Happy Glass is a great game that requires you to think outside the box, drawing lines in any way you can to fill the glass of water.

Immortal Souls - John Turner is an RPG with a comic book aesthetic where you play John Turner, a young vampire who wants to do good and save people. This will eventually cause problems between him and other members of his species. The game lets you equip your protagonist with dozens of objects to improve your abilities in duels, which are turn-based and mix the classic, deliberate style of Final Fantasy with a twist similar to Puzzle Quest. This first part of the adventure (the second part is expected to be released in mid-2011) is composed of 14 chapters where you'll have to destroy dozens of enemies, win loads of trophies, and meet many interesting characters. Immortal Souls - John Turner is an entertaining game with a spot-on aesthetic that fans of RPG games are sure to enjoy.

You will be able to accelerate or break, even though the motorbike will move at a pretty decent speed as a default. It'll also be important to turn, either right or left, as you will have to dodge other vehicles quite often. In some races, the four lanes will go in a single direction, whereas in others, you may find vehicles coming in the opposite direction in the left lanes, so extra care should be paid. In Traffic Rider (Gameloop) you'll find over twenty motorbikes to choose from. At first, you will only be able to use low-capacity motorbikes, but soon you'll be unlocking bigger bikes that will allow you to drive faster. The best part? You can drive them in many different settings and times, whether at night, dawn or midday. Of course, driving a night will pose the added difficulty of less visibility, but it's worth noting that the experience is even more spectacular. Traffic Rider (Gameloop) is an outstanding racing game, with several game modes, dozens of races and events, amazing visuals and, most importantly, a simple control system that works perfectly. In short, an excellent motorbike game that will delight speed lovers.

Legend of Iya is a two-dimensional platform, action and adventure game that is very similar to other independent games like the awesome Frogatto (also available at Uptodown) and Iconoclasts. The principal mechanics of the game include exploring enormous, two-dimensional settings, jumping from side to side, fighting against tons of enemies, solving puzzles, and generally doing anything possible to continue advancing throughout the game. During your adventure, you'll visit all types of scenes, from the first forest to ancient sanctuaries and castles, as well as a few dark surprises. However, the twenty or so enemies you will have to face will present the most variety; they range from regular monsters, to giant bosses. Visually, Legend of Iya is a wonder, with exquisite pixel art and excellent animations. Everything from the settings to the characters is designed with a lot of care and attention to detail. Legend of Iya is a very entertaining 'metroidvania' that, after years of development, seems to have finally reached the finish line.
