Mysterious Castle is a by-the-book roguelike where you control a group of adventurers who journey into mysterious lands where, of course, they find the 'Mysterious Castle.' The game has a very basic gameplay in which your characters have different attributes (strength, build, intelligence...) and skills (opening locks, climbing, stealth...), which can be improved as you gain experience and level up. To gain experience, as usual, you'll have to defeat your enemies in combat. These fights are turn-based, meaning you can take your time in deciding what you want each team member to do. You can face off against orcs, dark elves, demons, skeletons, and many others. And, of course, you can fight them using lots of different weapons and spells that will perfectly complement your characters' abilities, giving you more possibilities. Mysterious Castle is a very fun RPG with all the traditional elements from the roguelike genre, but is much more accessible thanks to the intuitive graphics and mouse-based controls.

Return to the Dungeons of Doom is a traditional rogue like that contains all of the genre's traditional elements: turn-based combat, one final permanent death for your character, a full character creator, randomly generated dungeons, etc. The game's story sticks to the classic original Rogue. Basically, your objective is to go down into the depths of a dungeon to find the famous amulet of Yendor and then come back out, alive. The dungeon is made up of 26 levels, after which you will finally find the amulet. During the adventure you will have to face hundreds of enemies and traps that leave no room for mistakes. Even the smallest misstep can end up with your character being killed...and you having to create a new hero. Return to the Dungeons of Doom is a fun roguelike which, in spite of its traditional style, thankfully incorporates many modern elements such as pixelated graphics and a simplified mouse control.

Rogue City Scavenger is a roguelike where you play a government agent who has to find the source of a deadly disease that's slowly killing the city. The problem is that there are lots of dangers that can put your hero's life at risk. When you start the adventure, you are closed inside a room with a strange alien creature that you can't inflict damage on. This is just the beginning of a story in which almost the entire city will be trying to kill your character. The combat system, as in most roguelikes, is turn-based. You can move freely throughout the city tile by tile, going inside buildings, dodging vehicles, facing all types of enemies, and of course using lots of different weapons. Rogue City Scavenger is a super-complicated RPG that you will possibly have to start over several times. Fortunately, as soon as you advance in the story, it starts getting more and more interesting.

Along the way, you can collect different weapons and armor to help you survive until the end of the adventure. You can use different weapons like knives, swords, spears, and hammers. You can also equip yourself with shields and drink different potions, which can eventually save your life. You can also find food and use it to recover your health more quickly. Rogue's Eye is a fun and traditional first-person RPG. Both its graphics and gameplay make you feel like you've gone back in time to the early 90's, when RPGs were at their best.

Quadropus Rampage is an unconventional 'roguelike' that steers away from some of the genre's more traditional concepts to offer a more frantic and accessible gameplay which is reminiscent, at times, of the amazing game The Binding of Isaac. Players get to control an octopus (or squid, or tentacled-creature) which, armed with a sword, will try to finish off all undesirable creatures which inhabit the bottom of the sea. Every time you kill one of these creatures you'll earn experience which will allow you to go up a level. Also, some of the enemies will release new weapons for your character who will then be able to use anchors, giant fish bones, hammers and many more crazy weapons. To use the different weapons which fall into your hero's tentacles you’ll be able to use three types of attack: normal, ink propulsion, and special attack with which you'll be able to destroy tons of enemies in just one attack. Quadropus Rampage is a nice and fun 'roguelike'. Not only does it come with an addictive and easy to use gameplay, it also has colorful graphics which are quite different from the usual stuff seen in the genre.

ColdRL is a traditional roguelike where you play the last survivor of an expedition in one of the world’s coldest regions. The game’s main goal, very simple at first blush, consists of walking 600 meters to get out of the tundra. Although this may sound easy, it won’t be at all. Along the way, you’ll find legions of strange, giant spider–like creatures called ‘manshonyagger’ that will try to kill you at the very sight of you. (And they'll most likely succeed within a few turns.) To defend yourself, you’ll have a 9mm pistol with very little ammo and a knife. However, the most important thing will be to stay out of sight from the strange creatures since your odds against them in combat will always be very low. Besides the manshonyagger, you’ll have another, even more powerful enemy: the cold. If you don’t keep your body temperature stable, you'll die from hypothermia. ColdRL is an RPG and, to some extent, a stealth game where players need to carefully think through every move. Take a step in the wrong direction and the tundra will end you.

Nightfall is a roguelike where you play the co-pilot of a tiny spaceship that has mysteriously crushed into an asteroid. When you go out to the surface, your character discovers that the asteroid is inhabited by an unknown and dangerous life form. Besides this murderous alien life form, you also have to take into account the asteroid's movement. Each second that passes, it moves away from the sun, so darkness begins to fall quickly from the left of the screen. If it reaches you, you'll be dead in seconds. The action in Nightfall is turn-based. Both the movement of your character as well as the battles are solved following a simple system. And as usual, you can use all kinds of weapons and objects, including first aid kits, which are super necessary to maintain your health. Nightfall is an RPG with conventional gameplay but a really original storyline and setting. The closest reference to it, in fact, would probably be Pitch Black, an excellent science fiction movie.

Rogue's Souls is a 'roguelike' mainly inspired in games like Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, two of the hardest games available for Playstation 3 and XBox 360. And, of course, it has been strongly influenced by other games like Brogue. At the beginning of Rogue's Souls, you'll have to create your character, choosing its sex (male or female) and class (warrior, thief, explorer, or mage). Once it's created, the adventure begins inside a dungeon. Rogue's Souls is structured around gameplay similar to the aforementioned Dark Souls. Each time that you kill enemies, you'll obtain souls which you can use to improve your various skills. Another detail taken directly from Dark Souls is the use of 'resistance' for running, dodging, and hitting. Thanks to this feature, you'll have to be careful not to waste your hits and movements, since you could end up completely 'spent' when facing an enemy. Rogue's Souls is a fun role-playing game that combines a high level of difficulty with a simple control system, especially for a roguelike. It's the ideal game for anyone looking to get into the genre.

The Man in the Mirror is a very strange role-playing game where you control a patient in an asylum who suffers from acute schizophrenia and is isolated in a padded room. Everything changes when, thanks to his isolation and psychological issues, he sees a demon. Strangely enough, this demon helps him leave the room and invites him into a demonic dimension. You can use this dimension to access otherwise inaccessible areas of the map. As you play, you'll have to confront various types of enemies, from your own psychological issues to the psychologists themselves, as well as demons who are upset that you're trespassing in the demonic dimension. To defend yourself, you can use stones, knives, and other makeshift weapons. The combat system, as in many roguelikes, is turn-based. Every time you hit an enemy, the enemy will have a chance to hit you back. The Man in the Mirror is a strange roguelike. Instead of focusing solely on the combat system or the stats of the main character, it has a unique story in an interesting world.

Gameplay is reminiscent of other, traditional games of the genre. That means you'll have the classic menu setup to manage different aspects of your characters like their inventory, and combat (which is typically totally random) will be turn-based. During combat, you can choose between attacking normally and using the mask's special powers. Whatever you do, you've got to be careful - there are dangerous creatures in the forest, and they'll take advantage of any chance they can get to finish Rick off. Graphically speaking, Splatterhouse RPG looks like a Super Nintendo or Megadrive game, with a 16 bit style that meshes perfectly with the game's gameplay. Splatterhouse RPG is a game that is sure to please horror movie fans, especially those who know the Splatterhouse franchise. Its allusions will be appreciated by anyone who is familiar with the saga.

Unlike other games in this genre, Depths of Darkness - Deeper Than Hell is played exclusively with the mouse and has a simple and intuitive gameplay. To pick up objects, for example, just go over them to add them to your inventory automatically. Combat is also very simple: you attack first and then the monster attacks back. If you die from the counterattack, you have to start from the beginning. Luckily, you can see the monster's level and attributes before attacking so you can strategize accordingly. Depths of Darkness - Deeper Than Hell is a roguelike with a lot of options, which is why it's so simple (to control) and yet so addictive. Getting to the end of the dungeon and defeating the final boss, however, will not be quite as easy.

The High Road is an odd RPG where you play a cleaning lady in an office building who needs to do her cleaning rounds, facing all the challenges that someone in her position might encounter. To avoid these run-ins against shelves, trash bins, pots, etc., you'll have to play a mini-game that involves solving a math operation very quickly. In the easier levels, a couple of sums will do the job but as things get more and more complicated, you'll have to do several multiplications and divisions. The High Road's storyline is very important, letting you discover what happened in the building where the cleaning lady works. The dialogues between the protagonist and the rest of the employees in the building are the perfect link between the plot and the gameplay. The High Road is a totally different experience from what most players are used to seeing. Its story, protagonist, and gameplay are a breath of fresh air for the RPG genre.

The Lore of Lorewyn is a proper Super Nintendo–style JRPG that, behind its traditional appearance and gameplay, hides a story full of surprising plot twists where nothing is what it seems. You play Tyrin, who finds himself in a medieval fantasy world and doesn't remember who is he, what he's doing there, and why he's in the trouble that's following him. Luckily he has Mia, an apprentice wizard devoted to helping him. The game's development, which lasts some 20 hours, is very traditional. In other words, you advance linearly through the story while fighting in a series of random battles against tons of enemies. If you win these fights, as you usually do, you'll earn experience to level Tyrin up. The higher your characters' levels, the more abilities they can use in combat. And these abilities will be absolutely necessary for beating the game's toughest enemies. The Lore of Lorewyn is quite a long, fun, and different traditional RPG. Although its story looks standard at first, it conceals much more than it seems.

The most important thing of One Night, therefore, is its story and its horror setting that in spite of having a lot of clichés will scare the players more than once. During the whole course of the game, a series of creatures capable of ending the life of your character will stalk you. The objective of One Night, in any case, will be to discover who your character really is because after waking up in a mysterious station the only thing he can remember is his own name. Why he's there or what has happened in this place are two of the questions you will have to find an answer for. One Night is a horror game with touches of role-playing, whose strong point is the setting and the story. Those who are looking for this will be pleasantly surprised.

Lunacity is a game that mixes elements of adventure and role to offer a story set in a futuristic city where the main character, a detective named Jia, must solve a homicide committed in the city center. During the adventure, Jia will have to deal with lots of other problems besides the murder. Along the way, for example, you'll encounter other delinquents you'll have to deal with using your flying motorcycle and regulation pistol. As you pursue the criminals, you have to shoot at them while avoiding the different obstacles that get in your way, like cones or fences. You can also pick up valuable objects along the way in order to get some 'overtime' pay. This extra money will be very useful to buy objects and upgrades for your protagonist in some of Lunacity's shops. Better weapons, better parts for the motorcycle, or social upgrades for Jia. Lunacity is a 2D adventure RPG with an interesting story starring an interesting character. The setting, very similar to classics like Tex Murphy, is spot-on and a proper novelty within the genre.

The Chasm is a role-playing game with a turn-based combat system in which you control a young man who has fallen over a waterfall. Now, you have to try to escape from this dangerous chasm and avoid the enemies that are trying to kill you. In the beginning, you can only control the main character, Hank, who is armed with little more than a stick and his bare hands. After you play for some time, new friends will join you. The first one is your loyal dog, Smoke, and later on you'll meet new friends as you go. The combat system uses the traditional SRPG system. This means that you can move throughout the scenario in turns, selecting enemies that you want to attack. You attack first, and then your enemies attack. It's a simple and effective system. Each time you win a fight, you'll get experience points and will level up over time, improving your skills and abilities. In the beginning, you only fight birds and slime, but to face more dangerous enemies later in the game, leveling up is necessary. The Chasm is a charming role-playing game with strategy-based fights. The story is not that great, but it will keep you interested for a number of hours.

At the beginning of each encounter, players have to choose which abilities their units will use. Each of the four heroes has his own, exclusive abilities. For example, the wizard can call forth lightning, while the warrior is able to launch a whirlwind attack with his axes. The combats are turn-based, and when it is your turn, you can carry out two actions with each of your characters, whether that be moving them two times, attacking twice, or moving once and attacking once. After that, it is your enemy's turn, and he can do the same thing with his unit. Midgard Saga is a very enjoyable role and strategy game, which offers a gameplay which is typically found in console games and which is rarely present in PC games. In addition, it has outstanding graphics and enchanting character design, which shines particularly well due to the Unreal Engine.

Nox Brain is a 'hack and slash' where you control a virus named Nox, whose mission is to infect the brain of a person to make him feel remorseful for all of his evil deeds. In other words, Nox is actually a good virus, created by Professor Nox to help save planet Earth. In fact, the person who was infected is none other than the president of a company that is contaminating the planet and contributing majorly to its destruction. Once you find yourself inside the brain, you'll need to run through the brain nodes battling all sorts of enemies representing by the body's immune system. And you'll have to pick up particles of your own virus along the way, to make you stronger. The story behind Nox Brain is not the only unique thing here; its visual style, which is very colorful and full of details, is as well. Although the animations are a little clumsy, overall Nox Brain is quite attractive. Nox Brain is an odd game with fun, creative gameplay and an intriguing story.

Pixel Piracy is a combination of strategy, simulation, and roguelike games in 2D where players control the captain of a pirate ship, who has to perform all the duties befitting that post. Early on in the game, you must create your pirate ship, building it from scratch with blocks you find in your inventory. In other words, you can unleash your imagination and build your ship exactly how you want it. But a pirate captain needs more than just a vessel, and you'll also have to hire a crew. To do this you have to go through the game's taverns hiring pirates who strike you as up to scratch. That said, keep in mind that each pirate you take on will demand wages and you'll have to pay them. While you’re in the city you can also purchase different equipment for your crew, ranging from new swords and stronger weapons to hooks for boarding other ships. Once you have a ship and a crew you can travel the world trying to plunder beaches, enemies, towns, and anything else you can find. But be careful, because if your hero dies, you will have to start over again from the beginning. Pixel Piracy is a fun standalone game that combines several distinct genres to form an exquisite whole, and when you throw in the pirate setting, this game should never go out of style.

Diggr is a very peculiar ‘roguelike’ game where, in order to survive, you have to reach level 26 of a dungeon brimming with enemies, killing all creatures that stand in your way. Although the concept sounds traditional, it’s the only classic thing about Diggr. For starters, Diggr is a ‘roguelike’ where players don’t have special attributes, or life points, or even a normal inventory of weapons. Instead, the players have five different variables and can carry two additional objects as equipment. This limited inventory could turn into a problem if you consider that during your adventure you’ll come across objects as varied as a death wand, a rocket launcher, a shotgun, magic potions, and even fire grenades. Meanwhile, you can bring a viking helmet, a chain mail, and a shotgun. On top of that, can make holes into the dungeon’s walls by using a pickaxe. All you need to do is stand in front of a wall and use it to open new paths. Diggr is a fast, unmerciful and very entertaining ‘roguelike’ game. You’ll die many times but don’t worry, that’s the whole point of Diggr, a game where you gain experience the hard way.

Omega RPG is a traditional roguelike originally designed by the Laurence brothers at the end of the 80s. It's very similar to the classic games from the Rogue and Hack genre, where players explore dungeons full of monsters represented by ASCII symbols. The interesting thing about Omega is that it follows in this style but is one of the first games to add a historical context and narrative to the main gameplay. Thus while playing Omega, you're free to wander around the huge city where the game takes place and even explore the bigger world where the city is set. The powers and attributes you have at any given moment will give your character different abilities. For example, at the beginning of the adventure you can't enter the castle in the city because you're a nobody. But as you build up your reputation, you might be allowed inside. This version of Omega has graphics based on tiles instead of the classic ASCII. But even with this aesthetic change, the game is still very, very hard.

DataJack is a stealth game with isometric graphics set in the near future where players control a mercenary that sells his (many) services to the highest bidder, whether that be a big corporation, the army itself, or an anarchist cell that is trying to overthrow the government. Players have to manage their inventory and their character's skills from their base. From there, you can not only save the game, but also choose the missions that you want to accept. And you can accept a lot of different ones. Once you've accepted a mission, you have to complete it any way you want or can. For example, a mission might be to steal data from a computer, and in order to do so you can either use stealth... or kill all of the security guards and civilians that you meet along the way. Graphically speaking, DataJack is quite similar to the legendary game Syndicate, and it even has the same setting and perspective. However, despite the retro esthetic (or maybe because of it) the game stays good the whole time. DataJack is an excellent stealth and action game with hints of role-playing, which will remind you of Syndicate in a way that won't displease veteran players.

Hymn of the Sands is an 'action RPG' set in ancient Egypt where you will control the Egyptian god Osiris in his fight to recover his lost immortality from the forces of evil. The style of the game is pretty similar to titles like Torchlight or Diablo. In other words, you'll need to advance through a dungeon infested with traps and enemies, dodging the former and finishing off the latter. As you progress through the Egyptian catacombs, you'll discover new abilities that can be linked to different buttons on your mouse or gamepad. There's your normal attack, different attacks that form fireballs or steal lifeforce, and even special group attacks. One of Hymn of the Sands' most distinctive characteristics is that you can change between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead at any time. Like in Soul Reaper, you'll be able to alter reality with just the push of a button. Graphically, Hymn of the Sands is surprisingly good thanks to the Unreal Engine. Its character models, lighting effects, and textures are all quite impressive. Hymn of the Sands is a Diablo-style role-playing game with a lot of character. It has fun gameplay and excellent graphics.

The Consuming Shadow is a roguelike horror game with puzzle and adventure elements, heavily inspired by titles like FTL: Faster Than Light and Eternal Darkness, among others. In The Consuming Shadow, you control a normal person who is trying to survive a completely paranormal occurrence: England is being consumed, little by little, by a darkness containing all sorts of evil. Everything starts when terrifying creatures begin to emerge from Stonehenge. Unfortunately, these creatures are just the tip of the iceberg: a dark god will arrive in 72 hours. You're objective is to survive those 72 hours. To do so, you'll need to travel all over England by car, choosing your routes and the cities in which you'll stop. When you enter a city that hasn't yet been consumed by darkness, you'll have the chance to buy supplies, weapons, ammunition, and all kinds of useful gadgets. Of course, if the city is infested with evil creatures, you may have to fight them. The parts of The Consuming Shadow with action are played out in real time from a two-dimensional perspective. You can use your pistol to shoot or hit something in the body, although you probably want to be on the lookout for a more powerful weapon... The Consuming Shadow is an outstanding title from an outstanding developer, who once again shows that he is capable of producing the best that any genre has to offer. Another masterpiece from Ben Croshaw.

Dungeon Heroes is a first-person role game that follows in the footsteps of the 90s dungeon crawlers, where players could gather a group of adventurers and delve into the depths of a dungeon full of dangers. Players can control one to four different heroes, including warriors, clergymen, wizards and rogues. Each character comes with particular skills, with which fans of the game will already be familiar. Even though you can only play four characters, you have nine to choose from. In Dungeon Heroes, combat goes in turns. Your enemy will attack, and then it will be your characters' turn, in a certain order, to decide how to retaliate... casting a spell, attacking, using an object, escaping, etc. In addition to combat, Dungeon Heroes will also test your intelligence with other puzzles, and you will be able to access dark hallways and rooms. Dungeon Heroes is a classic dungeon crawler that, despite its rather old-fashioned graphics, has a very fun and addictive game mechanics.

Infinite Crisis is a MOBA (a mix of strategy and role-playing) along the same lines as League of Legends or DOTA2, in which the players can control some of the DC universe's most iconic characters, such as Batman, Superman, or the Joker. The complete list of playable characters amounts to more than 25, with some classics such as the aforementioned Superman or the Joker, but there are also lesser-known characters such as Doomsday, Shazam, and Star Saphire. The story of Infinite Crisis is connected to a disaster between various DC universes, which means that you won't only meet the characters already mentioned, but also versions of those characters from different universes. In other words, you'll also be able to use Mecha Superman, Gaslight Joker, or Atomic Harley Quinn, among others. Infinite Crisis' game mechanics will be familiar to any aficionado of MOBAs. The players, organized into teams, will have to throw themselves into the attack in order to finish off the opposing team, all the while improving skills and earning experience. In addition, you'll have to use drones and combat turrets to help you, and watch out for the 'power ups' that can give you an advantage. Visually, Infinite Crisis is pretty good, in part thanks to the excellent character design offered by the game, as well as the incredible detail of the scenes, which includes destroyable elements and references for DC aficionados. Infinite Crisis is an excellent MOBA that, thanks to fun and dynamic mechanics and striking scenes, will manage to hook not only DC aficionados, but also any aficionado of the genre.

Delve the Dungeon Crawler is a first person role-playing game inspired by the board game Delve: the Dice Game, in which you have to direct a group of adventurers through a series of dungeons that are full of traps and enemies. Players can use different types of adventurers, including warriors, clergy, wizards, thieves, knights and explorers. Each of them has special abilities that make them unique in battle, so you will have to learn how to control each one. During your adventures through the dungeons you will come face to face with a total of seventy different monsters, scattered between even more different encounters. Just like in the case of the different characters, it will be very important to know how each monster behaves in order to come out winning each time. There are more than a ten different dungeons in Delve the Dungeon Crawler where you will find not only enemies, but also artifacts and objects for your heroes. As it's to be expected, if you use the best team you will have a significant advantage in the most difficult combats. Delve the Dungeon Crawler is an excellent dungeon crawler game that has rather clumsy graphics, though fans of the board game will love its enjoyable game mechanics.

Once you've created your character, you can start your adventures, moving over the game map and accepting different missions. Some of the missions are meant to be played solo, and you can tackle them without much trouble, while to beat others you'll need the help of a group of adventurers that you can summon at any time through the Internet. The combat system in Conclave is very similar to what you see in any other board game. You can do two actions in each turn, like moving, running, defending, attacking, and other basic actions. When you're not in combat, Conclave develops in a similar way to narrative adventures. You read the description of whats happening and choose a course of action from among the different options available. Conclave is a traditional and outstanding classic RPG. It's not super attractive visually speaking but the gameplay will delight veterans of the genre.

Earthrune is a third-person role-playing game along the lines of Diablo or Dungeon Siege in which you control Layla, the last line of defense in the Earthrune woods, who has to clear the woods of the corruption that is destroying them. Earthrune's game mechanics are very similar to those of other 3D 'action RPGs' with an isometric perspective. That is to say, players can control Layla with the keyboard and attack their enemies by clicking on them. Now, Earthrune incorporates an interesting puzzle element in its formula. Using the mouse, players can draw runes that allow them to cast powerful spells. These spells not only allow you to fight against your enemies, but are also essential when it comes to solving some puzzles. During your adventure, in addition to facing normal enemies, you will come face-to-face with giant 'bosses' that will make things quite difficult for you. Luckily, your hero will evolve as the game progresses. Earthrune is a very fun role and action game with very good graphics. In addition, it has a story that focused on protecting nature and that everyone will love.
