When you're creating your group of adventurers you can choose between several different classes and species: warriors, paladins, thieves, clerics, and magicians; humans, elves, dwarfs, and gnomes. Of course, every class has its own set of abilities that you can improve bit by bit while you advance through the dungeons. Besides these special powers, which are the main weapons of the warriors or thieves, you have more than 40 spells at your disposal. These are the main tricks of the magicians and clerics, who use the spells to attack and protect themselves, which makes them very versatile classes. Crawle is a mix between a 'dungeon crawler' and a 'sandbox', in which you play a character who must deal with all the problems that any normal person would face being lost in the woods for a long time. These problems, as is logical, begin with ensuring the very survival of the protagonist. That is, we have to be careful that the protagonist does not go hungry and thirsty, conserves energy with plenty of rest, and keeps their sanity intact. The life bar, which is very important for survival, is affected by all the elements that could affect their health. This means that if you want to stand a chance when confronted by your enemies, you need to start in good physical condition. The world in which Crawle is set is fully dynamic and is one of the game´s main strengths. That is, trees can die during the adventure, animal carcasses will rot, and so on. Basically, any element in the game can be affected by the player. Crawle is a fun role-playing adventure game, in which survival is the main goal. The Last Days According to Ezra is a peculiar role-playing game created with RPG Maker. In it, you play as Ezra, a worker at a factory called Machine Inc. who, after being fired, goes through some changes that will forever alter his life. These changes, which give the game its character, cause him to play an important role in the future of the universe as we know it. In fact, they even bring him to fight with enemies in classic turn-based combat as the story unfolds. But although there is some combat, The Last Days According to Ezra doesn't include levels, experience, special weapons, or any of those typical role-playing elements. That's what makes it a unique game: the most important part is you, the player. The Last Days According to Ezra is a special role-playing game, with captivating characters and story that more than make up for the lack of entertaining gameplay.

Subterranean Starfield

Subterranean Starfield is a role play game (RPG) in the style of the old Super Nintendo games, created with the RPG Maker VX ACE tool. In it, without being presented with much of a back-story, players dive into various dungeons to kill lots of enemies and loot as much treasure as they can. As with all games of this type, you can select some extra characters to join your hero and create a team of four intrepid adventurers. You can also equip them with different pieces of equipment (armour, weapons, etc) to better adapt them to their roles within the team. The game uses a turn based combat system (similar to early Final Fantasy or Pokemon), so while you're exploring your surroundings, the display emits an alarm and the combat begins. This combat, as usual, is played out in turns. Subterranean Starfield is a game in the anime style, with turn based combat, and where the simple story never tries to take centre stage. Instead, it is the combat and exploration that are the true stars of this title.

Sword of Legends is a game that combines elements of action, platform, and role playing games (RPG), to offer a different experience from most traditional RPG's, albeit with a look that will take you back to the 16 bit era. The player takes on the role of Adon, a simple warrior from a small town who embarks on an adventure that will lead him to explore many different locations in the amazing medieval fantasy world he lives in. Now, the Sword of Legends story and characters are minor aspects, the most interesting aspect of the game is the number of actions you'll be able to carry out with the protagonist. Adon not only jumps and attacks using his sword; he can also carry out dozens of special movements. Sliding along the ground to go through small holes, demolishing walls with sword-at-the-ready charges, falling with the sword facing downwards to break the ground... and several other sword techniques you'll learn along the way. Apart from all the techniques, Adon can count on several different artifacts to aid him (much like in the Castlevania games) in jumping higher, or diving for longer, etc. Of course you will also be equipped with several different swords and shields. Sword of Legends is a very fun two dimensional role playing game that goes well beyond simply offering a nostalgic look, to offering a truly amazing game.

This game offers exactly the same as the original Dungeon Crawl, including the races and classes when creating a character, the spells and weapons, and the same available skills. The fundamental difference is that, thanks to the graphics-based interface, performing actions is much more intuitive. The graphics in Dungeon Crawl Tile Version are lovely, despite their simplicity. Each and every one of the pixels has a fantastic retro look, and the variety of enemies is great, as well. Dungeon Crawl Tile Version is a visually improved version of one of the best roguelikes that currently exists. It should be required for any fan of the genre. Summoning Wars is a free and open-source role-playing game with both single-player and multiplayer modes, the latter of which allows for up to eight people playing on a local network. Gameplay is very similar to Diablo and other classic ARPGs, with the fundamental difference that Summoning Wars has 3D polygonal graphics. Except for that detail, this game is exactly as you'd expect, including talking with other characters, fighting hundreds of enemies, earning experience and leveling up, using magic abilities, equipping weapons and armor, etc. There's also a pretty elaborate story that starts with your character locked in a dungeon inside a guarded castle. Everything starts to fall apart when a dangerous demon attacks and the guardians ask for your help. Summoning Wars is a pretty fun role-playing game. Although it's not that visually appealing (the graphics leave something to be desired), it has great gameplay and an excellent story. You can also choose from several different classes at the beginning of the game, each offering a unique playing experience.

The Endless Dungeons is a roguelike game with 8-bit style graphics that pays tribute to the genre's classics with a story that requires you to descend to the bottom floor of a 99-level dungeon in order to defeat its guardian. You start the game by choosing the sex and class of your hero. There are mages, warriors, thieves, clerics, and more to choose from. The game's difficulty depends on the class that you choose, since, for example, mages are particularly weak at the beginning of the game. Like any good roguelike, the game's 99 levels are randomly generated, ensuring that you'll never play the same game twice. Each level is full of all kinds of enemies that will provide you with experience, and treasures that will allow you to equip new weapons and special objects. The Endless Dungeons is a fun roguelike that replaces the genre's traditional, tiresome interface with one that is much more comfortable to use on a computer and with a mouse.

Fame is an RPG that, despite taking material straight from roguelike classics like Ancient Domains of Mystery or Castle of the Winds, goes above and beyond these games by offering an enormous role-play game in every respect. The first thing to do before starting your adventure is create your character. And from this moment you'll already see Fame's depth. Not only can you select the name, class, attributes, and gender of your hero, you can also choose their age and some special characteristics, such as whether they're missing an arm or a leg. As you create your character you can also choose whether you want permadeath or the possibility to bring your character back to life. If you choose the first option, you'll get the proper roguelike experience. Fame's level of detail goes as far as your character not being able to read signs if, while creating your hero, you chose that he would be illiterate. Of course, this is something you won't be able to do either if it's nighttime and you don't have a flashlight. Add to all these small details a very solid, traditional role gameplay where you talk with loads of characters, receive missions and assignments from them, buy and sell objects, and, of course, fight with tons of creatures. The combat system, as usual, is turn-based. When it's your turn you can choose to attack with the weapon you're carrying, use one of the objects in your inventory (like potions), cast spells ... or run away. Fame is an RPG that's full of possibilities. It has a long and interesting story and very solid gameplay. Even though the graphics aren't exactly excellent, this is an RPG that every fan of the genre will like.

Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM) is one of the most successful roguelike games of all time. It was released in 1994, and still has a solid number of active players. At the start, as in other games of this genre, you have to create and customize your character, choosing from among various races (elf, human, dwarf, orc, troll, etc.) and classes (warrior, mage, priest, thief, explorer, etc.). You can also randomize your character, or customize it down to the smallest detail. Once you have your character set up, you can start fulfilling the prophecy that serves as the backdrop for the game's story: a hero will rise from among the rest to end the darkness that looms over Ancardia. It won't be easy to succeed in this enterprise, though. Following the traditions of roguelike games, Ancient Domains of Mystery has an interface controlled by the keyboard only (you should read the manual before playing), permanent death, random and fatal dungeons, and very simple graphics that will take veteran roguelike players back to the good old days. Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM) is a highly entertaining RPG that has more to it than most modern commercial games. Its main drawback (or asset, depending on your point of view) is that it takes time to master the controls and all the options they offer.

On one hand, you have a general view of the galaxy through which you can move with your spaceship. You can add tons of annexed artifacts to your ship, and have conversations and make decisions about what to do in the name of your captain. On the other hand are the battles, where you'll take direct control of your ship, dodging and shooting with built-in controls. To survive for as long as you can! Thanks to the wide-open nature of your objective, throughout the adventure you don't have to really go anywhere or find anything in particular. Your mission is to survive, which you can only achieve by performing all sorts of different actions. Iter Vehemens ad Necem is an old-school roguelike that, on top of the inherent difficulty of this genre, adds a layer of trickiness that starts right in the game's prologue. In that prologue, you'll learn about the daily life of your character, whose routine includes waking up to monsters in his face, having to fight creatures of all kinds, and climbing trees for hours just to find food. And this, of course, isn't even the most difficult thing you'll have to face. Once the game really begins, Iter Vehemens ad Necem has exactly what you'd expect: turn-based combat, a traditional interface, classic but decent graphics, and, of course, permadeath. The problem is, as you advance, the game will try to kill you however it can. That said, Iter Vehemens ad Necem also includes some new features that make it stand out even more. For example, you can recruit allies on your adventure in the hopes that they will help you survive a little longer. Also, oddly enough (though it does makes sense), the game has a 'vomit' button. Iter Vehemens ad Necem is a very fun roguelike that, despite being relatively accessible, is still super difficult. It's nevertheless a great gaming experience for fans of the genre.

The problem is that the more treasure you find, the more enemies you attract. The combats are simple too: if you attack first you kill the enemy, but if they do it first, you're the one dead. It's really that simple. Dying near the beginning of the game is thus almost impossible, since you always have room to move. But as more monsters appear, you have fewer free cells to move to. Dark Disciples II is a classic-style 2D RPG set in an epic fantasy world known as the Eastern Lands. You start the adventure locked inside a slave camp, which you'll have to escape from in order to start your real adventure. In the beginning of Dark Disciples II, you have to create a new character, putting different points into the skills and abilities that you prefer. This means you don't have to choose a class per se, but instead will create it as you play. Although you start the story locked inside a prison, you'll eventually visit a lot of different locations throughout the game (which can last for more than 20 hours): from the jungles of the Eastern Islands to the deserts in the South. The combat system, as in almost all similar RPGs, is strictly turn-based.
