UnEpic is an action, adventure and role playing game in which we control a young role playing gamer who, during a game, suddenly appears in a fantasy world. We'll play the game in a similar way to Castlevania or The Maze of Galious. Move all around the 2D world while you collect items, avoid tramps and face up enemies. As long as you earn experience, your character will evolve and get stronger to defeat bigger monsters and overpass more dangerous challenges. UnEpic is an extremely good game which, although it is still in progress, seems very promising.

3079 is a first person role game with an open world (think Fallout: New Vegas or TES: Morrowmind), in which we play a soldier from the future that lands in a strange planet in constant war. Our objective, far from killing everyone, is to restore peace. All the scenery, the buildings, the objectives, the characters and the missions are generated randomly. This means that in every game we will find completely different challenges and situations. Although none of them will be especially original or elaborated. Our character can shoot, hit, jump, swim, scream, steal, open doors, pick up and use objects, etc. That is to say, we will have many different actions at our disposition, ready to be used whenever the occasion requires it. The best part of the game, besides being able to play alone, is that we can also play a game with a group of friends and be a little barbaric with them. Which is possible thanks to the great weapon arsenal that the game offers, which include guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, swords, etc. This promises good fun. 3079 is a very fun and original title. If its creator continue to work in it and giving it the support it needs, we might be looking at a very interesting concept.

Fortune Summoners is an adventure in which several genres, such as role-playing, platform, and action, are combined into one. In it, the main characters are a couple of little anime girls who love going on adventures, and... Killing enemy creatures. Gameplay, once you've left the small town in which the little girls live and where you can buy objects and talk to other characters, is actually very similar to any other 2D 'action RPG' you've ever played before. When you control Arche, who is the expert in melee weapons, you can pull out combos and destroy enemies at short range; when controlling her friend, meanwhile, you're limited to using magic over longer distances. The game is quite long, with over a dozen dungeons to explore and pillage and a story that can carry on for over twenty hours from beginning to end. The game's art design, as can be seen in the images, emulates 16-bit games. Scenes and characters are recreated pixel by pixel with great care as can be seen in the detail of the characters, whose anime look will definitely appeal to more than one. Fortune Summoners is a very good game that will prove especially interesting to fans of action RPGs, and anime in general. Plus, it does not require a very powerful computer to work smoothly.

Bloodline Champions is an action game featuring also strategy role-playing in which you battle against players from all around the world to check who is the strongest. The gameplay reminds you the classic League of Legends, in the sense that your goal is to destroy the opponent as soon as possible, and prevent him to do the same with our heroes. There are no resources, no bases, no levels, just pure and simple action against our enemies. At your disposal you have more than twenty different heroes, each with their own special skills and style. Some, for example, can cast powerful spells of fire which swept large areas, and others will be much more versed in individual murder. Best of all is that depending on how you are doing in you fighting, the game will assign rivals at a level similar to yours. Thus you rarely find fighting against someone who may wipe you off the map in two minutes ... or someone who does not pose the slightest challenge. The graphics of Bloodline Champions, although not very spectacular, fulfill its role to perfection. They have an air of caricature, and thanks to those not state-of-the-art graphics the game will run smoothly on any computer. Bloodline Champions is a very entertaining title that mixes genres to perfection to provide the player a delicious cocktail. It is also free, so it is worth a try.

Path of Exile is a Diablo-esque action RPG where players can create their character and embark on an adventure full of action and danger in the world Wraeclast, where you have been exiled and must learn to survive. The character classes that you can choose from are prowler, ranger, sorcerer, duelist, templar and shadow. Each style has its own set of abilities, and, most importantly, their own way into the massive tree of skills that you will improve as you gather experience. Although the game shares some significant aesthetic similarities to Diablo II, the game offers a far more complex mechanic every step of the way. Both the character development, which offers hundreds of possibilities, and the item customization, that allows you to perform authentic actions with the objects you encounter. Besides the solo campaign, which itself holds hundreds of hours of entertainment, the game comes with a duel system where you can play against other players in battle arenas, so you can see who is the strongest among all your friends. Path of Exile is a brutal RPG in every sense of the word. Not only does it offer hundreds of hours of completely free game play (you heard right, it's free!), but it also has outstanding game mechanics and graphics that rival the giants of the genre. That's why it has no need to envy Diablo III.

Loren Amazon Princess is a traditional RPG where you have to create your own character, choosing their gender and class, to join Princess Amazon on her epic adventure. Despite the story and characters being as important as in any other RPG, Loren Amazon Princess' biggest appeal is the detailed, in-depth combat system. It'll require a lot of strategy and cunning on your part to survive some of the most complicated fights this game has to offer. As you progress through the story and kill enemies (of which you'll find many different types), you'll gain experience and level up, which will guarantee you new abilities. However, your ability of recruiting the more than 10 playable characters that appear throughout the adventure will open up lots of possibilities when it comes time to fight. Loren Amazon Princess's graphics aren't anything wonderful, since most consist of static illustrations. That said, they're very well drawn and give the game a special charm. Loren Amazon Princess is a classic RPG that includes an interesting adventure, romance options for the other characters in your group, a very fun combat system, and a fantastic setting.

Ham Sandwich RPG is a role-play platformer starring a ham sandwich who goes on an adventure to find condiments and make himself more delicious. Sadly, due to disputes with the king, he is sent straight to the dungeons, which he'll have to escape from. The gameplay is very similar to that of your average platformer, since you'll be jumping from place to place most of the time and dodging traps. But soon after you start playing you'll also find a sword that lets you kill enemies ... and in turn to level up and get more life points. In addition to the game being fun because of its playability, one of its most appealing elements is its sense of humor. It's not for no reason that they put you in the shoes of a ham sandwich to face this series of complicated challenges. Ham Sandwich RPG is a very peculiar game with a different approach but a gameplay that's easy to catch onto and fun from the beginning. The best part? It's free and quite short.

Rune Masters is a role-playing game that, just like in the installments of the Puzzle Quest saga, uses a combat system based on puzzle games in which you have to connect three pieces of the same color. Players have to make a way to a world of epic fantasy by using ingenuity. Rune Masters is fundamentally different from Puzzle Quest in that the battles are held in real time, not in turns. You have a time bar that fills during the game, and after your opponent's move, it's your turn. Due to this, if you aren't quick-moving and fast thinking, your opponent will beat you for sure. Between battles, players can explore a map full of different locations where you can talk to a lot of different characters. In addition, you can upgrade your hero by downloading different attributes, choosing spells and equipping yourself with different types of objects. Rune Masters is an excellent mix of RPG and puzzles. It not only offers a fun and dynamic gameplay, but also has great graphics and an interesting story.

Flare is a role playing game that uses elements from Diablo and other similar titles, such as Torchlight and Titan Quest, offering an experience in which action meets role playing in equal parts, in a fantasy world that is plagued with goblins, zombies, giant spiders, and other dreadful creatures. As in all the games in the genre, your goal is to travel through different scenarios that are full of dangers, and to fight hundreds of enemies using weapons that you find as you play, stealing them from enemies, or just buying them from merchants. Throughout this adventure, besides interacting with different characters in towns, you can visit many outdoors and indoors locations, where you can fight creatures and take your loot. Flare is a pretty good action and role playing game that is reminiscent of Diablo even in the graphics, which are very similar to that in Blizzard's game, and also charming in a very particularly 90s kind of way.

StoryBook Tactics is a turn-based SRPG where you play a group of adventurers whose aim is to save the world from the attack of an evil necromancer, who's converted a large majority of adventurers to his cause. To this end, you'll have to use this reduced group of intrepid cubes (the character design is certainly odd) and plunge into your adventure. The gameplay is the classic one for SRPGs: you can move your group around a world map and, every time you get to a new zone, you have to participate in a battle. In these battles, which are the heart of the game, you have to fight tons of different enemies who try to end your heroes' lives. As you continue winning your characters will improve ... until you finally face off against the necromancer. Wayward is a role-playing game belonging to the subgenre of the well-known 'roguelike' where the player takes the role of a character stranded on a desert island (without humans, but with beasts) that will have to survive all the problems that someone in his situation can encounter. Unlike a lot of games from the same genre, Wayward does not have levels. In its place you will find a series of abilities you can improve as you are using them. For example, the more you swim, something that will drain your resistance, the better your swimming ability will be. To recover the energy you will lose by carrying out any action or the health taken away by savage beasts, you will need to cook. In fact, the kitchen and the creation of objects is a fundamental part of the game that additionally will give it a certain 'Minecraft' touch that will be liked by lots of players. You can take any type of branch from trees, stones, earth, coal, etc. to create tools of any type. Sticks, axes... everything will be useful in your thrilling adventure. Dink Smallwood is very peculiar RPG that differs from other titles in the genre mainly in that instead of embodying a knight in shining armor, a master assassin or a powerful magician, you have to play the role of a pig farmer. With this character it's not too difficult to guess that the game's story line, despite the inclusion of a fantasy realm full of dragons and other creatures typical of this sort of world, revolves around your sense of humor. That is, your protagonist can punch chickens and make passes at the girls down the pub... while also still having to save the world, obviously. The gameplay, story line and setting aside, this game resembles the vast majority of traditional RPGs. That is, you have different attack, defense, and magic attributes, your standard life bar, and – of course – weapons you can use during your adventures. Nethack is a roguelike where you have to delve deep into a randomly generated dungeon to find Yendor's amulet, which can grant your hero immortality. Achieving this is not easy, though. The dungeons are always randomly generated, always different, and feature 50 different levels. Each of these levels includes lots of enemies and traps that can kill your character, and when this happens it's game over – no reloading the game, no reviving the hero. When creating your character you can choose from many different classes, like the warrior, barbarian, mage, thief, or monk; and you can also choose the race, gender, and name. On the other hand, if you don't want to worry about any of that, you can generate a random character. It will probably die soon anyway.... Nethack didn't originally have a graphic environment, and was played exclusively with a text interface. Currently, though, you can activate pretty rudimentary graphics, which at least makes the game a little more accessible. Nethack is a difficult game, possibly one of the most difficult games in history. Getting all the commands you can give the character right is already a challenge in itself. But getting to level 50 alive is an almost impossible goal.

Zafehouse Diaries is a strange video game that mixes elements from traditional board games and the role-playing games that have been around forever with a very successful zombie setting where your goal is to survive. On the one hand, Zafehouse Diaries presents you with an adventure where the main scene is nothing other than a game board. The board is of a house, to be more precise, but in the end it's a game board. You have to move your different characters around the board in order to find resources and secure your position. Of course, in addition to this traditional board game setup (which is even more apparent due to the fact that your characters are represented by game pieces), there is also a lot of role-playing content in Zafehouse Diaries. Each character has his or her own characteristics or attributes, and even the story that you create influences the game a lot. Zafehouse Diaries is a unique experience that does an exceptional job of combining genres to offer a fun video game that you will want to play again and again. You can spend hours and hours playing it before it gets boring.

Deepfall Dungeon is a quintessential first-person RPG where you enter a dungeon and then have to work your way down to the lowest level in order to find a way out and escape certain death. You will, however, encounter all sorts of obstacles and setbacks along the way. The most common, as usual for games like this, will be the monsters that you'll be able to fight off using both your weapons and your magic. Traps can also prove to be a problem you should take into serious consideration. As you enter further into the dungeon, you'll also find characters who aren’t enemies and whom you can talk to and trade with ... or steal from. It's not all sword thrusts and fireballs in Deepfall Dungeon. At the technical level, the game isn't that spectacular, but it does the job. Neither the soundtrack nor the graphics stand out in any significant way, but then again they're really not that essential to this type of game. Deepfall Dungeon is a pretty good RPG that, in spite of not reaching the level of quality found in similar recent games like Legend of Grimrock, does manage to offer a very enjoyable experience without having to pay any money at all.

He has to establish a base and take care of all the work that comes with it. This means that the players will have to confront various problems that can be solved in different ways. On one side, Planet Explorers allows you to modify the terrain in a similar way as in Minecraft, being able to construct any type of tool and different buildings, also quite similar as in the game Mojang. So the number of existing possibilities in Planet Explorers is enormous, especially when knowing that this is an Alpha version. You can create dozens of types of buildings, working tools, weapons, vehicles... If the creative part is not enough, then Planet Explorers also has a strong load of role-playing and action. The players will have to deal with all the creatures of the planet in a way that will remind you of Monster Hunter. Furthermore, the surroundings of the planet are very varied. You can explore its green steppes or its blue sea depths, passing by rocky mountains or the interior of caves. In each environment you will find different enemies and different materials. On a graphic level, Planet Explorers is no wonder but it's also not bad. It uses 'voxels' technology, which allows it to generate a lot of terrain without using a lot of memory. Furthermore, the character models are generally well made. Planet Explorers is a very ambitious open world role-playing game that combines the best of a lot of very good games to offer a different experience. When it will be in a more advanced developed stage, it will be the talk of the town.

DoomRL is a `roguelike´ set in the Doom universe, in which we will have to venture into randomly generated dungeons, and kill as many demons as we can before its them that end our existence... something inevitable in this genre. The game is made up of 25 random levels; this means that if we overcome the 25 levels we will `win the game´ although they will be different most times so we will very seldom feel like we are repeating a scene. One thing, we will occasionally find `special´ levels which have more than one surprise. As expected from a Doom `roguelike´, in the game we will find the whole arsenal of traditional weapon´s from this franchise, as well as practically all the enemies to which we are so accustomed. The special items are of course, there as well, and even some new ones have been added for the occasion. As we go along killing enemies, our character will move up a level. Each time we do this we will gain more abilities, which will be essential to overcome the enemies from lower levels, who won´t allow us to make even the slightest mistake. Regarding the graphical and audio section DoomRL is wonderful. The game uses the original sounds from Doom and the graphics have been created by Derek Yu, using an excellent pixeled style. DoomRL is an outstanding `rouguelike´, which thanks to the different levels of difficulty it includes will allow us to enjoy relatively simple experiences as well as authentic hell which will burn our eyes and melt our finger tips.

DiabloRL is a roguelike inspired by Diablo. As with other games in this genre, the gaming experience is difficult but rewarding, mixing in some of the most characteristic elements from the game Diablo. That is to say, DiabloRL, like the original Diablo, begins in the town of Tristram. The main character has come to town to talk to Deckard Cain, who will tell you everything that has happened in the nearby church. You'll also discover the poor soldier was mortally wounded by The Butcher. Once you're inside the church, the concept of the game will feel familiar. You'll find all kinds of enemies (like skeletons and zombies) in each level, and you can earn money by killing them. You can also find new equipment, beat levels, improve attributes, and so on. The main difference, of course, is that in DiabloRL, there is no graphical interface. All the game's elements are represented by text symbols, and you'll have to identify each item in this way. The interface is just as hard to master, so you'll have to study the commands before you'll be able to get everything under control. DiabloRL is a very difficult roguelike, but veterans of the genre will have a great time rising up to the challenge.

Castlevania Roguelike is a roguelike inspired by the Castlevania universe, developed for the 7DRL competition in 2005, and over time transformed into an excellent role-playing game. There are six character classes that you can choose from: vampire killer, darkness renegade, vanquisher wizard, souls' master, man-beast, and knight. Each one of them has its own abilities and special skills. As in all the games of this genre, in Castlevania Roguelike the maps are generated randomly, creating different levels in which you can find lots of enemies, some of them already well-known in the saga, like skeletons that throw bones, giant wolves, zombies, etc. Naturally, you won't only find enemies in the game, your adventures will also lead you to find different objects, artifacts, armors, and weapons, all from the Castlevania universe. As the images show, the game has the graphics of a Gameboy Advance game, or of the classic Symphony of the Night. In fact, some of the sprites used in the game are very similar to those used in Symphony of the Night. Castlevania Roguelike is an excellent roguelike. The graphics make it appealing, and it still offers an old-style difficult challenge. A true great game for those who like this genre.

Bravada is a role playing game with touches of strategy, in which you must move through a number of grids, doing away with any baddies that get in your way and collecting as much treasure as you can. The adventure is led by a dwarf and his trusty bat, who together must move through a series of dungeons to collect all the treasure they find. Along the way they can also find new friends, level up, improve their attributes and acquire new ranks. Having been developed on grids, the action in Bravada sonn becomes very strategic. You have to place your characters in the most effective formations. For example, you should ideally have strong melee characters front, protecting the weak at the back. Graphically Bravada nothing special, but the colourful style makes the somewhat poorly designed scenery more forgivable. Furthermore, the general look of the game is actually quite nice. Bravada is an entertaining title that, although it seems designed more with touch control tablets in mind, works pretty well on a computer with a keyboard and a mouse.

Dungeon Fry is a roguelike where you pick from three different character types (warrior, wizard, or thief) to raid many different dungeons, killing all the enemies that cross your path along the way. Rogue's Tale is a roguelike that, while being faithful to the genre in its basic gameplay, offers a slightly more traditional experience where your objective will be to venture into the dungeons of Frostmourn Keep to dethrone the current king and take his place. Almost nothing. Among the basic conventions of the genre respected in Rogue's Tale you'll find the random generation of dungeons, which will give way to infinite places where you can die; and permanent death, meaning that, yes, you'll have to start from the beginning each time your character dies. To avoid those deaths you will luckily have loads of different weapons with different attributes, more than twenty talents, more than thirty spells, and more than thirty legacy abilities that you can transfer from one character to another. Rogue's Tale is an openly 'offline' game but includes a very entertaining 'online' component in the form of so-called YASDs (Yet Another Stupid Deaths). This method will allow you to save your deaths to share them with other users so they can laugh at your clumsiness. Graphically, Rogue's Tale is not a prodigy, but it does offer quite a nice visual look. Also, the character design and scene details are less important in a genre like roguelike. Rogue's Tale is an excellent title that, although it can be frustrating due to its high level of difficulty, has all the requirements to become one of the big names of the genre in the independent area.

The Age of Decadence is a third-person role-playing game with overhead perspective that has been in development since 2004. It is set in a world that mixes elements of epic fantasy like magic with a post-apocalyptic world inspired in the decline of the Roman Empire. Like the majority of role-playing games, when starting The Age of Decadence you can create your own character by selecting different characteristics, with background being the most important. You'll have various options covering everything from a knight of a noble order to a low-class grifter. Naturally, this choice will significantly affect how your game plays out. Another feature that defines your character are their abilities. There are 23 different abilities, like disguise, persuasion, wisdom, and object creation. The combat system is turn-based and one of the most important elements of the game. You have action points and you'll need to use them to the best of your ability if you want to defeat your enemies. Luckily, you can count on the use of different weapons, including swords, daggers, axes, lances, bows, and many more. Of course, depending on which character you select at the beginning, it's possible that you won't do much fighting at all. Believe it or not, in The Age of Decadence, you can solve almost all of the situations that are presented to you in non-violent ways. Diplomacy may end up being your most powerful weapon. In fact, you'll want to solve the majority of your in-game missions using different abilities. Combat may be a quick solution, but sometimes using stealth or subterfuge will be more effective in accomplishing your objectives. The Age of Decadence is a long, complex game: it includes more than 100 different missions that will take you along dozens of different locations. There are cities, ruins, castles, temples, dungeons, and many more areas to explore. The ability to create objects that we mentioned earlier is especially important in the world of The Age of Decadence, since those objects include potions, rolls of parchment, tools, and weapons. As you might imagine, all of these will come in handy along your adventure. The Age of Decadence is a colossal role-playing game. Although it doesn't have the most advanced graphics, it conserves the essence of the great role-playing games from years ago. It's an essential title for any fan of the genre.
